Koh Lipe, Thailand // 2013

19 - 23 May 2013

the immigration office just by the beach

After getting our passports stamped at the Immigration Office, we walked along the beach to our resort - Mali Resort on Pattaya Beach. I really like this resort. No reception counter, just a bar. You get everything done at the bar - check in, breakfast, chill, drink. The resort is managed by a few Americans, and they're really friendly, nice and helpful. It feels like they actually care about your stay. And the resort is named after their dog! Anything dog gets brownie points.*grin*

view from the room
While this is the low season and it's supposed to be stormy and rainy, we had clear blue skies and bright sunshine most of the time. Lucky us! *smiles*
Many resorts on the island were closed. Downside, many restaurants/shops are closed too. But it's ok, it's quiet and nice to chill and relax.

There are really a lot of dogs running around on this island, on the beach. Some will just hang around you...sometimes, I feel like they're my pet.

It rained one of the morning. After breakfast, we borrowed some DVDs and watched movies in the room. Oh, must mention that the bed is very very comfy :)

On another day, we decided to go fishing. One of the guy from the resort helped us to find a boat to take us fishing. He even let us use his personal fishing rod. So nice of him. We even lost a few hooks *shy*
We tried trolling first, but didn't get anything as the sea was rough. Then we stopped somewhere in the middle of the sea for deep sea fishing. Very fast, we caught a couple of fishes! *beginner's luck* After a while, I start to get seasick...like very bad, and i start feeding the fishes in the sea with bacon and eggs I had for breakfast (puking) :S

The boatman continue fishing and he got quite a few including a big one.

catch of the day

After a while, it's just too torturing for me so we decided to go back. I was too sick to decide what to do with the fishes so we just let the boatman have it. I regretted. Should have taken and cook it to eat.

There were not many options of restaurant as it's a small island and many were closed due to the low season. However, overall we had pretty good food. The Thai pancakes (square shape roti canai with toppings) are really really good on this island, with lots of toppings variety).

There's also this place that served cocktails with funny names.

try ordering the cocktails in thai!

Most of our time there are spent reading/napping at the beach, chill and drink at the bar while chatting with the resort owners and other guests.

There was this Aussie guy who were supposed to be there with his girlfriend but they argument and he ended up there by himself. We had seafood dinner with him one of the nights.

On the last day, after checking out, the resort owner volunteered to take us on a bike taxi to take the boat. It was quite an interesting ride going through the small trails.

Jason, giving us a ride to the meeting point to take the boat back.

When we arrived at the meeting point, they took us on a pick-up truck to the other side of the island, the Sunrise Beach. Then, we were all asked to board this small boat (sampan). It's like we're all illegal immigrants trying to flee the island by boat. The boat took us to a few hundred metres off the beach and then transferred us onto a bigger, decent boat. Thank god. Otherwise, it would have taken us at least 2 hours to reach I think. :P

It's such a beautiful island I would definitely want to go back.
